Reversible reactions - go both forward and reverse

In a closed container reversible reactions may reach equilibrium.

You will be asked to make two statements to describe every equilibrium.


What statement will you write about the rates?

What statement will you write about the conditions?

What can you calculate as the result of the second statement?


 Notice the water flowing into the container and out of the container.  If the rate of flow in equals the rate of flow out, what will happen the water level in the container.  That's equlibrium.  Is it the same water?  That's why its called dynamic equilibrium.

The graph at the right shows the changes in concentration as the system reahes equilibrium.  Notice the concentrations change until the system reaches equilibrium.  At equilibrium the concentration of products and reactants remain constant, though the concentration of products is greater than reactants.
